One of the most popular things to do at the end of the year is predict what the upcoming trends will be popular the next 12 months. This is true for almost everything, from fashion to marketing, and fitness as well. The American College of Sports Medicine recently offered up what it thinks will be the defining trends in the workout world in 2012.
One of the newest fads that made it on the list were dance-inspired workouts like Zumba. The exercise landed at number nine and experts seem to think it is here to stay. According to CNN there are classes in more than 110,000 gyms across the globe. "Zumba is liberating and magical, and one of the key ways it has expanded is through word of mouth," founder of Zumba Fitness Alberto Perlman told the news source. Coming in at second on the list was strength training, and programs aimed at older adults landed in third. Additionally, just outside the top 10 was yoga, which landed in 11th place.
